Body Found After Police Stand Off
The body of a man has been found in Lincolnshire after an armed man held a lengthy standoff with police.
Police said they were called to a house in Chapelgate, Sutton St James, just before 11am on Tuesday after reports of a man making threats with a firearm.
Officers attended the scene, established that the man was alone in the property, isolated the area and initiated a firearms response operation that lasted some ten hours.
A sterile cordon was established and those in their homes within the area were asked to remain there. Police said a "significant police presence" was drafted in, including support from Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire officers, along with East Midlands air support. Trained negotiators engaged with the offender for a considerable period of time.
At around 10.30pm officers entered the building, carried out a methodical search and found the dead body of a man in an upstairs room.
Police confirmed that no shots were fired by officers.
Earlier in the day a local male officer sustained a minor facial injury during the operation and he was treated at Boston Pilgrim Hospital. He has now been discharged. The circumstances of his injury are subject to investigation and no further information can be released at this time.
All residents were told it was now safe to leave their homes and police thanked people living in the area for their cooperation and patience.
The matter has been referred to the IPCC for investigation.
