Man Killed During Burglary In London

A murder investigation has been launched over the death of a man in Bexleyheath following a robbery.

Police were called at approximately 10.25pm on Wednesday January after reports of a burglary at an address in Barnehurst.

According to police, at approximately 10pm, a number of suspects entered a residential address, tied up the two occupants and stole some of their property.

Edward Syrad, aged 64, is understood to have been injured during the incident, and although formal identification is yet to take place, next of kin have been informed.

Officers, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, and enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances of the incident.

DCI Lyons said: "One line of enquiry is burglary although at this early stage of the investigation we are keeping an open mind with regards to a motive. We would appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything, or has any information regarding this murder, to come forward and assist police."

No arrests at this stage.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Incident Room on 020 8721 4961; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
