Report 'Damning Indictment' Of Health Reforms

A Labour MP has called a forthcoming report into the Government's controversial health reforms a "damning indictment".

Responding to the report by the Health Select Committee, Labour's Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham said the reform plans would be dealt a "damning verdict'.

Mr Burnham said it was reported the committee will criticise the Coalition Government for running huge risks with the NHS by launching the biggest-ever top-down re-organisation at a time of unprecedented financial challenge.

The committee will warn that the distraction caused by the reorganisation could lead to the NHS failing to meet the £20bn efficiency savings challenge.

Mr Burnham said: "This report is a damning indictment of the Government's mishandling of the NHS. Andrew Lansley is not just losing the confidence of doctors, nurses and midwives but also senior MPs on his own side.

"The Prime Minister made a monumental mistake when he allowed Lansley to break the Coalition Agreement and re-organise the NHS at a time of unprecedented financial challenge."
