Woman Arrested In Phone Hacking Operation

A 47-year-old woman, understood to be the PA of ex-News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks, has been arrested in Essex investigating the phone hacking scandal.

Scotland Yard confirmed the woman was arrested at around 06.55am this morning and is currently in custody on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Ms Cheryl Carter has been a PA to Brooks for 19 years.

She is the 17th person to be arrested by Operation Weeting detectives.

Private investigator Glenn Mulcaire was released on bail in March over phone hacking allegations and perverting the course of justice.

Eight To Be Charged With Phone Hacking
Rebekah Brooks, Andy Coulson and six others will face a total of 19 charges relating to phone hacking, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has said. The former News of the World editors will be charged in connection with the accessing of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler's phone messages.

Woman Arrested In Connection With Phone Hacking Inquiry
In a fresh development detectives investigating phone hacking by the media have arrested a 31-year-old woman. The woman who has not yet been named was arrested in the North-East of England at around 6am this morning and is being held in a local police station.

Rupert Murdoch has sent an email to staff in his media giant News Corporation stating he should have "acted more quickly and aggressively to uncover wrongdoing" in the phone hacking scandal. The news comes after MP's branded him "not fit" to run an international firm.

No Criminal Charge Over Phone-Hacking Claims
Following an investigation into phone hacking claims at the News of the World David Cameron's Director of Communications, Andy Coulson, will not be facing criminal charges. Keir Starmer, Director of Public Prosecutions, said that no evidence existed to formally charge anyone.

Rebekah Brooks Charged Over Phone-Hacking
Rebekah Brooks and husband, Charlie, are to be charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice over the phone hacking inquiry. Three of Mrs Brooks's staff, and News International head of security Mark Hanna are also charged with the offence.
