MET Commissioner To Hold Twitter Chat

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Bernard Hogan-Howe, will be doing his first ever live Twitter chat on Monday evening.

The twitter chat will take place between 4.45pm and 5.45pm, when members of the public will be able to pit their questions to the Commissioner. You can get your questions to him using #askmetboss.

The news comes as a report finds the policing operation to tackle the summer riots across England was flawed. According to a special committee of MPs, the perception in some areas that police had lost control of the streets was the most important reason disorder spread.

The Policing Large Scale Disorder: Lessons from the disturbances of August 2011 report found that a policy of sending in large numbers of police was what ultimately quelled the disorder.

The Home Affairs Committee said insufficient numbers of officers were initially deployed and police training for public disorder was inadequate.

The report said: "If numbers could have been increased more rapidly, it is possible that some of the disturbances could have been avoided.

"We regret this did not happen and, with the benefit of hindsight, we regard the operation to police the disorder in many towns and cities, and particularly in London as flawed."
