Remains Found In Search For Murdered Wife
Human remains have been discovered by officers searching for Kate Prout, who was murdered by her husband in 2007.
Gloucestershire police said on Thursday evening that Adrian Prout took police to Redhill Farm at Redmarley, in Gloucestershire at the end of last week to show them where he had buried his wife's body.
The husband was jailed for life for her murder in February 2010 but only admitted to killing her on Thursday last week, before electing to take officers to her makeshift grave.
Search dogs were brought in to help find her remains on Thursday, the fourth day of the search. Det Supt Simon Atkinson, of Gloucestershire Police, said the remains had not been formally identified, but Mrs Prout's family had been told.
Det Supt Simon Atkinson said: “I hope this will mark the final chapter of these harrowing events for Kate’s family.”
Mr Prout agreed to show detectives where she was buried and on Friday November 18 was transported to Redmarley from his prison cell and took detectives to the area where he believed he had buried his wife.
Extensive searching started at a 10am by a 20 metre area of woodland on Monday of this week.
Gloucestershire Police said they made use of the best expertise in the country to try and find Kate’s body as quickly as possible in order to enable her family to finally have some closure.
