Baby Unhurt As Teen Mum Shot

A teenager mum who was holding her 11-month-old son has been shot and wounded after she came under fire from a shotgun as she talked to two friends in west London.

Jessica Chrichlow, 18, collapsed to the ground alongside two sisters - named locally as Sammy, 17, and Alex, 19 - after being caught in the crossfire of what was thought to have been a botched gangland attack, witnesses said.

Police said it was "hugely fortunate" that the baby escaped injury.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Foote said: "It was a random, reckless act and we are fortunate we are not dealing with a fatal shooting here."

The three victims had been outside in John Fearon Walk, North Kensington, west London, enjoying the hot weather when the attacker got off a bike and screamed at the group.

Police said the child may have been missed by inches as the bullet hit his mother.

Jessica Chrichlow, was taken to hospital with the two others, aged 17 and 19, after the attack, near Queen's Park, on Thursday.

Det Ch Insp Mick Foote said the baby was unhurt but the teenagers were struck by shotgun pellets.

The gunman joined three other men and all four fled on bicycles, he said.

No arrests have been made over the attack.
