Murder Inquiry Into Deaths Of Man And Baby
Police in Lancashire have launched a murder inquiry into the death of a man and a baby, but are not looking for other suspects.
Preston police said on Thursday that the two were found at around 6.15pm on Wednesday after police were called to an address on Marl Hill Crescent in Ribbleton.
"On arrival [police] found a 39-year-old man deceased and a six month old baby boy in a very poorly condition," a police spokesman said. "The baby was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival."
Detective Superintendent Neil Esseen, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is an incredibly tragic case; it is being treated as a murder inquiry, although we are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident.
"We are still in the very early stages of this investigation, but we are conducting a number of enquiries in order to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths."
The dead man has been identified as taxi driver Paul McBride and it has emerged that he was discovered dead at his mother's house at Marl Hill Crescent in the Ribbleton area of Preston.
The baby is his six-month-old son and was taken to hospital in a "very poorly condition" but later died.
Lancashire Police said they had been made aware of concerns for Mr McBride's welfare.
Officers and family members had been searching for Mr McBride, and it is believed a female family member found his body.
Forensic searches of the property have been made and post-mortem examinations are due to take place on Thursday.
