Ex-Labour MP Facing Expenses Charges

A former Labour MP is to face charges of claiming for dry rot treatment on her second home more than 100 miles from her constituency according to prosecutors.

Margaret Moran is to be charged with illegally claiming expenses by more than £60,000 and will appear before magistrates facing 21 charges relating to her parliamentary claims.

Moran, former MP for Luton South, will appear before City of Westminster magistrates' court on 19 September, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

The former MP, who was forced to step down at the last election, is now set to join four other Labour politicians facing court over their expenses claims.

Miss Moran claimed more than £98,000 in second home expenses between 2004 and 2009.

The Labour MP's expense claims were published by The Daily Telegraph after which she faced claims of repeatedly “flipping” her designated second home.

The Metropolitan Police are still understood to be investigating a further two or three MPs, including the former Labour member Harry Cohen.
