Six Killed In Jersey Knife Attack

Police in Jersey have launched a murder investigation after six people, including three children, were killed in a knife attack at the weekend.

A man, two women and three children were killed in the attack, which happened in a flat in the island's capital, St Helier, around 3pm on Sunday.

Police had been called to Upper Midvale Road, following reports of an incident at a flat in Victoria Crescent, which then spilled out onto the street.

A 30-year-old man, who received emergency surgery in Jersey General Hospital after the attack, has been arrested in connection with the deaths. Police are waiting to question him. It is understood that he is in a stable condition and is heavily sedated. He is being guarded by police in hospital.

It was revealed today that the victims are from two families, one of which was originally from Poland.

Forensic examination of the crime scene is continuing.

States of Jersey Police Head of Crime Services Stewart Gull said: "Clearly this complex investigation is in its very early stages as we try to establish exactly what happened. We are appealing to anyone who may have any information to contact us.

"We are mindful, too, of the impact of any such serious and tragic incident on the local community and we have police officers in the area to support the investigation and local people.

"Dealing with multiple deaths of men, women and particularly young children, it has shaken the force, but the officers who initially responded were tremendously professional.

"Jersey is an incredibly safe island, probably one of the safest places in the western world. Incidents of this nature are an extremely rare occurrence."
