Man Murdered In Southwark
Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was killed in Southwark. The alarm was raised at 7.50pm on Tuesday to reports of a male assaulted in a premises in Old Kent Road, in south east London. London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended however the man, aged 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating. Next-of-kin have been informed. Anyone with information that may assist police should call Crimestoppers. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
Heroin Seized At Manchester Airport
Seven kilos of heroin have been found by UK Border Agency officers inspecting freight shipments at Manchester airport. The Class A drugs, valued at over £200,000, were discovered on a flight from Karachi and were concealed in seven hessian covered cardboard boxes marked as used clothing. The boxes had been hidden within a larger consignment destined for an address in Oldham. Two men arrested in relation to the discovery have been released on bail pending further enquiries. Colin Brown, Assistant Director, North West of Engalnd, UK Border Agency, said: “As this detection shows, our officers are on constant alert to keep drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.”
Craft Comes To No 10
Diverse range of works by established and up-and-coming contemporary craftspeople will be on display to visitors to the Prime Minister’s official residence. Number 10 Downing Street is for the first time hosting an exhibition of some of the UK’s finest contemporary craft, on display from today. Visitors to the Prime Minister’s official residence will be able to see a diverse range of works by established and up-and-coming contemporary craftspeople showcasing the UK’s vibrant craft sector, which contributes £3bn a year to the UK economy and employs more than 80,000 people. “Contemporary craft doesn’t necessarily have the same profile as contemporary art, but it is no less important in terms of creativity or its ability to enrich people’s lives,” said Ed Vaizey, Culture Minister. The display curated by Janice Blackburn OBE, a well-known patron of the arts, freelance curator, writer and former co-curator of the Saatchi Gallery, will show works by craftspeople including Edmund de Waal, one of the world’s leading ceramic artists, Kate McBride, winner of theZelli Porcelain Award and Felicity Aylieff, senior tutor at the Royal College or Art will be on display in the state rooms and communal areas of the building. It is expected that the Downing Street display will be ongoing and will be changed every few months.

'Dead Harry' Statue To Go On Display In Central London
A sculpture of a "dead" Prince Harry in Army uniform clutching a cameo locket of his late mother, Princess Diana, is coming to London next week. The statue, by American artist Daniel Edward, is intended to be seen as a memorial to honour those who are willing but unable to serve in Iraq.

Tower Of London Poppies To Be Lit For Longer
Historic Royal Palaces has announced the display of ceramic poppies at the Tower of London will be lit for an extra hour at night and earlier in the morning to allow more people to see the exhibition. Currently the poppies are lit from 5am until dawn and from dusk until 11pm. They will now be lit from 4:30am and then kept lit until midnight.
