Rare Rifle Stolen In Burglary
Burglars have stolen a rare deactivated rifle from a house in Brinnington. Between 11.40pm on Tuesday 14 June and 7am on Wednesday 15 June offenders got into the house through an open ground floor window. They stole a French Infantry style Flintlock Musket, including powder and ball ramrod, jewellery and a knife with a photograph of John Wayne on the handle. Pc Bill Baines, based at Cheadle Heath, said: “The rifle and knife are both quite rare and although not worth a great deal to the burglars are sentimental to the family. If you have seen somebody with one of these items, or somebody has tried to sell you one then please get in contact so we can investigate further. I’d also remind people to make sure they lock their doors and windows as one in three burglaries we see are through insecure properties. This is especially important when people go to bed in the evening.” Anyone with information is asked to call Cheadle Heath police station.
