Soldier Killed In Bomb Blast

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of a British soldier in Afghanistan.

The unnamed soldier was killed by a bomb while on a patrol in the Haji Kareen area of the Nahr-e Saraj district on Sunday.

The soldier, was from 1st Battalion The Rifles.

His family have been told.

The MoD earlier announced that a member of 42 Commando Royal Marines was shot dead by insurgents on Sunday.

The number of service men and women killed in operations in Afghanistan since 2001 now stands at 371.

MoD names soldier killed in Iraq
The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the name of a British soldier killed in a bomb explosion in Iraq on Sunday. Major Matthew Bacon, 34, from the London area, was travelling in an armoured landrover in Basra, southern Iraq, when a roadside bomb exploded, hitting the vehicle.

Tributes paid to soldier killed in Iraq
Tributes have been paid to the British soldier killed in a bomb attack in Iraq at the weekend. Sergeant John ‘Jonah’ Jones, 31, from the 1st Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, died from injuries sustained in a roadside bomb attack in the southern Iraq city of Basra on Sunday.

MoD Name Afghanistan Soldier
A soldier killed in Afghanistan has been named by the Ministry of Defence. Private John Howard, from 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment was serving with 16 Air Assault Brigade's Reconnaissance Force when he was killed on Sunday. The 23-year-old New Zealand-born soldier was killed while on patrol against insurgents in Helmand province.

Afganistan Conflict Claims 87th UK Soldier's Life
Another soldier has been killed in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said. The death brings the number of UK troops killed on operations in Afghanistan since 2001 to 87. He was killed and several others were injured when their vehicle was blown up by a mine 3km (1.8 miles) north east of Musa Qala, the MoD statement said.

British Soldier Dies In 'Enemy Fire' In Afghanistan
Another British soldier had been killed in southern Afghanistan, it has been confirmed by the Ministry of Defence. The soldier, from the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, attached to the 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment, died on Thursday, after coming under fire while on routine patrol.
