Over 1000 Criminals Snared By CCTV
So far this year has saw over 1000 criminals identified by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) using CCTV.
The study highlighted 288 robbers, 158 burglars, 57 suspects for serious assaults and 19 people involved in sexual assaults. Many persistent offenders have also been identified for theft and anti-social behaviour.
Detective Chief Inspector, Mick Neville, who co-ordinates the Met's video ID (VIIDO) teams, said: "The Metropolitan Police continues to lead the world in catching criminals caught on camera. Our systems ensure that offenders captured on CCTV can fear being brought to justice for their actions."
The current level of identifications is 25% up on last year and the MPS is looking to continue this increase, with your help.
DCI Neville continued: "While a large number of suspects have been successfully identified this year, there are still people who the Met want to trace. We are extremely grateful to the public who have helped us identify many wanted people and I would urge people to visit our 'Caught On Camera' website to help us identify more."
