Guilty Plea Over Student Protest Disorder

A 21-year-old has pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Kingston Crown Court.

Charlie Gilmour, 21, of Lordings Road, Billinghurst, in Sussex was arrested at the student protests in London on 9 December 2010.

He attended a central London police station on 27 January and was charged with violent disorder and theft.

Commander Bob Broadhurst the Met's Head of Public Order said: "We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and anyone who thinks they can get away with causing disorder and damage on the streets of our capital should think again."

He continued: "I would like to thank the investigation team who have worked tirelessly to identify the offenders involved and gather the evidence needed to bring them to justice."

Gilmour will be sentenced at the same court on 8 July.

Raids On Addresses Of Gang Involved In London Disorder
Metropolitan Police Service officers from Brent Borough and the Territorial Support Group carried out raids at 23 addresses across the Stonebridge Estate, Harlesden, NW10 early this morning. The action was in direct response to evidence gathered against members of the 'Thugs of Stonebridge' gang during and after last summer's disorder.

Four Remanded Over Lancashire Park Death
A 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a father-of-five who was stabbed to death in a Lancashire Park earlier this week. Mohammed Bilal Bhatti, 20, of Holcombe Drive in Burnley and a 16-year-old who cannot be named because of his age, appeared before Burnley Magistrates' Court on Friday.
