16-Year-Old Charged With Florida Killings
Authorities in Florida have charged a 16-year-old boy with the murders of two British tourists.
Shawn Tyson has been charged as an adult with the murders of James Kouzaris, 24, from Northampton, and James Cooper, 25, of Warwick who were on holiday together.
They were found shot dead last month in the Newtown area of northern Sarasota, away from the known tourist area.
Tyson had previously been arrested for aggravated assault with a handgun earlier that month, but was released on 15 April. A judge had expressed concerns that the boy posed a danger to the public but his warning was not passed on to a second judge who released him.
The tourists were killed a day later.
The trial is expected within the next 18 months.
