British Mens' Florida Killings Probed

Detectives in the U.S are continuing their investigations into the deaths of two British men.

The friends, who were on holiday together, were found shot dead early on Saturday in the Newtown area of northern Sarasota, away from the known tourist area.

James Kouzaris, 24, from Northampton, and James Cooper, 25, of Warwick, were lying 50ft from each other in a street in the city of Sarasota.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of murder.

Sarasota police reported no known link between the suspect and the victims.

Florida Murders Suspect Named
Detectives in the U.S have named the 16-year-old arrested in connection with the murders of two British men in Florida. Shawn Tyson has been charged with two counts of murder. James Kouzaris, 24, from Northampton, and James Cooper, 25, of Warwick were on holiday together.

Tyson's Release 'Was A Mistake'
Authorities in Florida have said the release of a 16-year-old, who was later arrested over the murders of two British men, was a mistake. Shawn Tyson was held in Sarasota on 7 April after shots were fired at a car. He was later released and hours later was arrested over the holiday-makers murders.

Teen Given Two Life Sentences For Murder Of British Tourists In Florida
An American teenager has been given a life sentence for the murder of two British tourists while in Florida. 25-year-old James Cooper and 24-year-old James Kouzaris, friends from university in Sheffield, were shot and killed in Sarasota, Florida, after drunkenly wandering into the Newtown area in the early hours of 16 April 2011.

Police Respond To 'Benefits Street' Row
West Midlands Police has said it could launch an investigation following claims that a Channel 4 documentary about benefit claimants revealed elements of criminal activity. The first episode of the show, Benefits Street, aired on Monday night and shortly afterwards, prompted hundreds of comments from those concerned about the content.

Man Charged Over Pensioner's Mugging
A man has been charged over a robbery which resulted in an elderly woman's teeth being knocked out. On 28 October the 74-year-old victim was approached and pushed to the ground on Drake Street in Rochdale. Her handbag was stolen and her two front teeth were knocked out in the fall. A 48-year-old man has since been charged with the robbery.
