Man Jailed Over Stabbing
A man has been sentenced to a total of seven and a half years in prison for attacking a man in a north London street.
Dean James, 35, of no fixed abode, launched the vicious attack on a 31-year-old man outside the 'Barfly' venue in Chalk Farm Road on Saturday, 14 August 2010.
The victim, who worked at the venue, was standing outside of the bar at approximately 11pm when he noticed the suspect walking along the path and deliberately knocking into other members of the public. The victim told the suspect to move away, this caused the suspect to become aggressive and he made threats to stab the victim. The suspect then walked off towards Ferdinand Street.
About thirty minutes later the victim, who had remained outside of the venue, was approached from behind by the suspect and stabbed in the neck. Seeing what had happened members of the public tried to help and managed to detain the suspect. On police arrival the suspect was arrested and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment. He required a number of stitches.
The suspect was charged on 15 August 2010 with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
Detective Constable Karen Lopez from Camden's Violent Crime Unit, said: "This was a callous attack on a man who was simply looking out for other members of the public as they enjoyed an evening out in Camden. I hope this sentencing will reassure the public and the victim that justice has been done."
Mr James was sentenced to six years imprisonment for grievous bodily harm and 18 months imprisonment for possession of an offensive weapon.
