19 Bailed Following Trafalgar Square Disorder

Police are appealing for information following a number of fights in the Trafalgar Square area last Thursday.

Three men were stabbed and police made 19 arrests. All the men were bailed to return on various dates in mid-April.

Officers were called to the scene at around 4pm to reports of a large fight and a man stabbed.

London Ambulance Service was also called to the scene and emergency services found a 19-year-old man suffering four stab wounds to the head, arm and back.

Some time later, emergency services found a second man, aged 17, with two stab wound to his chest. Both men were taken by ambulance to central London hospitals.

Just before 6pm, officers were then alerted to a 19-year-old man attending a central London hospital with stab wounds to his neck, back and leg.

Two of the victims have since been discharged, while one is in a stable condition.

All the incidents are believed to be linked.

Police arrested 19 males, aged between 13-19, in connection with the incidents and they were held at various central London police stations before being bailed.

The investigation is being led by Westminster Serious Violence Team.

Superintendent Simon Ovens said: "This appears to have been a spontaneous incident and our officers were on scene extremely quickly, resulting in 19 people currently being held in custody.

"However it is going to take some time for us to speak to them all and establish a clear picture of exactly what happened.

"Trafalgar Square is an incredibly busy place and I would urge anyone who was in the vicinity that evening and may have seen something to come forward and talk to us. Their information could be vitally important in helping us to piece this incident together."
