CCTV Of Murdered Man Released
Police have released CCTV images of 24-year-old man in the moments before he was murdered in south east London.
Samuel Guidera, 24, was found collapsed in the street at Bailey Place, junction with Newlands Park, approximately 200 metres from the railway station.
The CCTV images, released by detectives, show Samuel in a local shop in Newlands Park, approximately 10-20 minutes before police believe he was attacked.
Samuel had spent the day watching football with friends. He travelled on the 21:17pm train from Bickley to Penge East, crossed the footbridge over the railway to the Newlands Park exit en route to meet a friend.
The CCTV images show Samuel as he went into the local convenience store before walking towards the bus stop on Newlands Park where he was attacked.
He was found collapsed in the street. A number of residents, occupants of cars, bus passengers and other pedestrians went to assist, initially believing that Samuel had been the victim of a road traffic collision. It was subsequently discovered that he had been stabbed. He was taken by London Ambulance Service to a south London hospital suffering from a stab wound and was pronounced dead.
Next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination took place on Sunday, and showed the cause of death to be a single stab wound to the heart.
Samuel was a student of history and politics at the University of Greenwich and was hoping to become a teacher. He worked at a local supermarket to support his studies.
Leading the investigation Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command said: “We would urgently like to speak to anyone who may have seen Samuel on this Saturday evening, whether they saw him in the train carriage or saw him getting off at just before 21:30pm.
"He was carrying a distinctive pink T-mobile carrier bag which some one may remember. Perhaps they saw him going into or leaving the shop?
"We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward as they may have important information that may assist the investigation.”
Samuel's family said: "Samuel was a hard working man, who was passionate about his studies. He was also very family orientated. We are devastated and cannot understand why this has happened. We would appeal to anyone who has information about our son to contact the police."
