Coulson Resigns Over Phone-Hack Claims

Andy Coulson, David Cameron's Communications Chief, has quit due to 'ongoing pressure' over phone-hacking claims in his role as newspaper editor.

Mr Coulson, 43, said he would leave his job in the coming weeks.

He explained how the coverage of events connected to his former post at the News of the World made it difficult for him to "give 110%" to his current position.

Mr Coulson denied knowledge of phone-hacking at the newspaper but felt plagued by the issue in his political career.

In a statement, he said: "I stand by what I've said about those events but when the spokesman needs a spokesman it's time to move on."

The Prime Minister said he was "very sorry" Mr Coulson had resigned but understood he felt "compelled" to do so as a result of "continuing pressures on him and his family".
