Tube Strike Could Affect Royal Wedding

A trade union has threatened to strike during the time of the Royal wedding in a pay row with the London Underground.

If the strike goes ahead on Friday, April 29, royal well-wishers could experience major travel disruption. It could also land police with crowd management problems.

The union Aslef, which represents the majority of Tube drivers, wants three days' pay and a day off in lieu for working bank holidays.

However London Underground had previously said that bank holiday working is covered by a long-standing salary agreement.

The last walkout, held on Boxing Day, caused major disruption on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

In two separate disputes, the public was today given notice by the RMT union of a 24-hour strike to hit the Northern and Bakerloo lines from Friday evening.

The walkouts are in support of two drivers "victimised" by London Underground.

Tube bosses have criticised the move, pledging to run what services they can.
