Extra Police Dispatched Across London
Amid fears of a terrorist attack, security has been stepped up at transport hubs across London.
The UK's terror threat level remains at 'severe' - the second highest level, as it has done for the last year, meaning an attack is still highly likely.
However a heavier presence will now be in force across the capital.
Today transport police were advised to cancel days off and the emergency services have been briefed regarding responses to attacks such as the one in Mumbai.
Members of the public have also been warned to be on alert.
A spokesman at the Home Office said: "There is a continuing need for everyone to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police."
A Scotland Yard spokesman added: "The threat level to the UK is at severe, which means that an attack is highly likely, and has been since January 2010.
"We will police accordingly and use a range of covert and overt tactics which
remain under constant review."
In the last few months there have been a number of terrorist attack attempts in the UK and across Europe.
In September, intelligence agencies intercepted information about simultaneous Mumbai-style attacks on cities in France, Germany and Britain.
In December, suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab al Abdaly detonated a device in a car parked in a busy shopping street in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Iraqi-born Swede had resided in Luton, Bedfordshire with his family for nine years until three weeks before the attack.
