7/7 Firefighter Jailed For Drug Smuggling

A firefighter praised for his work in the 7 July bombings in London has been jailed for 14 years for smuggling 110kg of cocaine into the UK.

Following a series of raids by police on properties in London, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire in 2008, Simon Ford, 41, was convicted for being part of a £80m drugs and money laundering operation.

He was one of 33 people convicted.

During the London bombings Ford helped rescue people trapped after a bomb ripped apart a bus in Tavistock Square.

He was arrested last year but due to reporting restrictions the details could not be reported.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

52-Year-Old Man Killed By Stolen Car In East London
A pedestrian has been killed in east London after being hit by a stolen car, police have reported. According to police the 52-year-old man was walking on Forest Drive, close to Manor park station, when he was hit by a blue Ford Focus on Wednesday.

A 29-year-old female Tube worker has been sacked for having epilepsy, Labour MP Kate Hoey has claimed. The former minister claims that Karen Guyott has been "dismissed due to her epilepsy", around five years after her diagnosis.

Violent Robber Absconds From Prison
Police are appealing for help to find a violent robber who has gone missing from Ford Prison. Simon Marcus Rhodes-Butler was jailed for seven years in September 2011 after he and accomplice Ilyas Ismail attacked and robbed a garage owner in South Norwood, London, in March that year.
