Spain Deaths Dad Convicted Of Child Abuse

A man whose partner is accused of murdering their two children in Spain has been found guilty of child sex abuse.

Martin Smith, 45, originally from North Shields but residing in Carlisle, was found guilty of 11 counts of rape, attempted rape and indecent assault at Manchester Crown Court today.

He had denied all charges on his victim, who is now in her 20s.

The mother of his children, Lianne Smith, 44, is accused of killing their children Rebecca, 5, and Daniel, 11 months, in May.

The court heard how Mr Smith used hypnosis and violence to groom and sexually abuse the girl.

Child Abuse Accused BBC Driver Found Dead
Former BBC driver, David Smith, was found dead on the day he was due to stand trial for sex offences. Smith (67), of Lewisham, south-east London, failed to appear for the opening of his trial at Southwark Crown Court over the alleged abuse of a 12-year-old boy in 1984.

Lady Elizabeth Butler-Sloss has been named as the chairman of a new, wide-ranging, review into historical child sex abuse. The 80-year-old retired senior judge previously led the Cleveland child abuse inquiry in the 1980s.

Man Accused Of Sexual Abuse Found Dead
A 72-year-old man accused of 12 counts of sexual abuse has been found dead. Former children's home manager John Stingermore was due to stand trial at Southwark Crown Court for charges related to alleged abuse at Grafton Close Children's Home in Hanworth. The alleged offences involved seven boys and took place in the 1970s and 1980s.

Man Jailed For 'Violent Stranger Rape'
A 38-year-old has been jailed for eight and half years for the "violent stranger rape" in west London last year. Olaoluwa Ibrahim, a Nigerian national of Relf Road, SE15, was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on Tuesday 28 July.
