Turkey Farmer Dies
Norfolk turkey tycoon Bernard Matthews has died at the age of 80, his company has confirmed. He began his business more than 60 years ago - with 20 eggs and a second-hand incubator. Mr Matthews, famous for his "bootiful" catchphrase, stepped down from the company's main board of directors in January on his 80th birthday.
Bus Crash Probed
A probe has begun after four people were taken to hospital after a collision between a double decker bus and five cars in Stockport. The bus driver and one of the motorists had to be cut free by firefighters from the wreckage and were taken to hospital. There are believed to have been up to 20 passengers on the bus in Bents Lane, Bredbury just after 6am this morning. Two bus passengers are being treated in hospital for minor injuries, Greater Manchester Fire Service said.
Baby Killing Case Resumes
The jury in the case of a man accused of murdering a six-week-old baby girl in Aberdeen has resumed deliberations. Mark Simpson, 29, denies murdering his then-girlfriend's daughter Alexis Matheson by assaulting her in 2007. The jury retired on Wednesday morning after being charged by the trial judge, Lord Uist, but was sent home yesterday and have now resumed at the High Court in Aberdeen.
BBC 'Best Year'
BBC Television is set to deliver the best year of any major UK broadcaster, following strong performances across its channels throughout 2010. Analysis has revealed that the AI (audience appreciation index) figures have gone up and the portfolio has grown its share to 33.1% - 0.5 points up on last year and now reaches 85.5% of the UK population each week, up from 84.7% last year. Jana Bennett, Director, BBC Vision, said: "It's been a strong year for BBC Television, with distinctive and uniquely BBC initiatives like the year of science, opera and poetry seasons and the launch of BBC One HD. We've seen truly ambitious and challenging moments, whilst keeping public service broadcasting values at its heart."

In an escalation of a row over pay during the Olympic’s, thousands of bus drivers in London are to vote on whether to take strike action. Unite said it had given 21 bus companies operating in London notice of its intention to ballot up to 21,000 of its members in the capital next week.
