Tyrone Man Arrested Over Fuel Laundering Plant
A fuel laundering plant capable of producing over nine million litres of illicit fuel a year, evading almost £6 million, has been dismantled by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
A man from Co Tyrone has been arrested and is being questioned following a raid at a private address in the Moy area this morning.
During searches HMRC officers seized two 25,000 litre tanks, pumping equipment and a quantity of bleaching agent, used as part of the laundering process, along with 2,000 litres of laundered fuel.
Mike Connolly, Assistant Director, HMRC Specialist Investigations, said: “Handling large quantities of any fuel is risky, and should only be done in appropriate conditions, certainly not in residential surroundings. HMRC takes the dangerous and illegal practice of laundering fuel very seriously and we have dismantled a number of large laundering plants in recent weeks. These seizures have prevented a significant quantity of illicit fuel from entering the market, and prevented criminals from undercutting honest businesses.
“Laundered fuel is being sold at a reduced price, and motorists may think they are getting a bargain because it is cheaper, but I would caution them to think again as this type of fuel can cause damage to your vehicle.”

Revenues and Customs officers have raided two diesel laundering plants in Merseyside and Wales. According to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the plants had the capability to produce up to 26,000 gallons of laundered fuel every day. The plants have been shut down with all fuel, chemicals and equipment seized.

Illegal fuel plant uncovered in Co Tyrone
Customs officers last night dismantled an illegal fuel laundering plant in Co Tyrone in a joint operation with PSNI. The laundering operation was discovered on farm premises in the Pomeroy area of Co Tyrone and had the capacity to process approximately 125,000 litres of fuel per month. This would have produced an annual revenue loss of £825,000.

MPs To Vote On Fuel Rise Delay
MPs will vote on Monday evening on plans to increase fuel duty by 3 pence a litre in January. Labour have said "it would be wrong" to bring the new rise in s soon an want it delayed until at least April. Conservative MPs concerned about the cost of petrol said they believed Chancellor George Osborne was "in listening mode" over the issue.
