Police Highlight Student Walkout Issues
Ahead of a proposed national day of action by students this Wednesday, 24 November, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is encouraging all protest groups to come forward and talk to officers about their intentions.
The day of action is being referred to as a national student walkout and may involve different forms of protest across the country. The MPS is preparing an appropriate and proportionate policing plan for whatever action may occur in London.
Commander Bob Broadhurst, who heads up the MPS Public Order branch and is Gold for the event, said: "We understand that Londoners may be concerned about this proposed day of action given the events which occurred in London during the NUS March on November 10.
"We would like to reassure people that we are doing all we can to make sure those who want to peacefully protest are able to do so, but we will not tolerate criminal activity, violence and disorder.
"I would encourage anyone who wants to protest next Wednesday to work with us now ahead of the day, so that we know their intentions and we can work together to ensure the best outcome for everyone involved.
"The Met has long respected and protected the right to protest and we will continue to do so, but anyone who plans to take to the streets of London intent on disorder, violence and crime should understand that it won't be tolerated and they will be arrested."

Post Office Workers To Strike Twice This Month
Over 4,000 post office staff will stage further strike action later this month in an ongoing dispute over the proposed closures of 76 high street branches. The strike action on 20 and 29 June will be the sixth and seventh such protest since Easter. The dispute involves the planned franchise of a number of branches and the laying off of 1,500 staff.

Hundreds Walk Out As Refinery Dispute Escalates
Hundreds of energy workers in North Lincolnshire have gone on strike in protest over the use of foreign labour on a construction strike. The demonstrators gathered at Lindsey Oil Refinery following a decision to bring hundreds of Italian and Portuguese contractors to work on the new £200 million plant at North Killingholme.

LU Workers To Strike Next Week
London Underground workers will stage a 48-hour strike next week, the RMT union has announced. The strike is the latest in a long-running dispute over staff cuts, with the union advising its members not to book on for any shifts between 21:00 next Tuesday and 20:59 hrs on Thursday.

Public Sector Unions Threaten Strike Action Over Pay Freeze
Hundreds of thousands of public sector workers could stage a three day protest in October, in a dispute over pay. According to reports, health workers are expected to announce industrial action for 13th October, followed by council workers on the 14th, and civil servants on the 15th.
