British Gas Bills To Rise By 7%
Gas and electricity bills are set to rise by an average of 7% from next month.
British Gas announced the price change, an average of £1.50 on the combined weekly bills for gas and electricity, which will affect around eight million customers.
However, the price hike will not apply to 300,000 of the "most vulnerable" customers.
The move comes after Scottish & Southern announced it would increase its gas bills by 9% from December 1.
British Gas said they had been forced to increase bills due to rising wholesale prices.
Phil Bentley, British Gas Managing Director said: "We know that rising energy prices come at a difficult time for many in Britain.
"That's why we are not raising prices for our vulnerable customers, such as the poorest pensioners, until after this winter."
British Gas added that around 1.6 million fixed price deals customers would not be affected.
