Life Sentences For Ben Gardner Murder
Three men have been given life sentences for the murder of Ben Gardner in south London last Halloween.
Mr Gardner, 30, was kicked and punched to death, in Sutton in October 2009 after his girlfiend's pirate hat was snatched.
Ross Collender and Daniel Ransom, both 21, and Jordan Dixon, 18, all from Carshalton, denied murder.
Collender and Ransom will serve a minimum of 16 years while Dixon was given a minimum term of 14 years.
The court heard that Mr Gardner's girlfriend, Allana Devine, 28, who was out celebrating her birthday, was also punched during the incident.
Judge Richard Hone commented: "The three of you jointly attacked and cowardly murdered a decent, gold standard young man of exceptional character, charm, gentleness and ability, who gave absolutely no provocation.
"His attributes shine and sparkle in contrast to your base metal."
