Pakistan Politician Murdered In London

A leading member of the MQM, one of the largest political parties in Pakistan, has been murdered outside his London home.

Police confirmed they were called to an address in Edgware, north London where Imran Farooq, from Karachi was seriously assaulted.

Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "A 50-year-old single Asian man had multiple head wounds and stab wounds. He was confirmed dead at the scene."

His family have been notified.

At this time no one is thought to have been arrested.

Upon hearing the news, the MQM party, has called for 10 days of mourning in Pakistan.

Mr Farooq claimed asylum in the UK in 1999 after years on the run as one of Pakistan's most-wanted figures. He was connected to range of charges including murder but insisted these allegations were politically motivated.
