Claudy Probed

It has emerged that the Historical Enquiries Team (HET) is in the process of contacting families of the 1972 Claudy bombing after a NI Police Ombudsman report found police, church and state colluded to protect Father James Chesney. The Catholic priest was never questioned by police despite being suspected of masterminding the atrocity. In a statement, the HET said it was contacting families "to offer to meet them and ask if they wish to become involved in a review of the case". "The HET has not completed a review and appreciates that the families had been awaiting the findings of the Police Ombudsman's inquiry, which they received on Tuesday." The Ombudsman's report found that the Claudy victims were "failed" by a "collusive act" between the RUC, the Government and the Church, "compromising" the investigation into the attack which killed nine people and injured dozens. Survivors and relatives of the Claudy victims have called for a fresh investigation into what happened.

This is part of the Department of Health's ongoing consultation process with third-party experts and patient groups. They will also be visiting health services already running on the some of the principles set-out in the White Paper to see how they build on the good work already been done to help drive up health outcomes to be amongst the best in the world. Prison Break

A young offender who served time in London's Holloway Gaol has won an Adult Learners Week award after turning her life around and winning an apprenticeship at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant. Faaduma Hassan was not in education, employment or training when she was sentenced to three years and four months at Holloway aged 19, but with the help and guidance of the prison's staff, its Jobcentre Plus job club and the St Giles Trust, she successfully applied for the apprenticeship to train at the celebrity chef's famous restaurant in London. Jobcentre Plus arranged day release licenses and took Faaduma to the four interview stages she had to complete for the apprenticeship. Her passion for cooking shone through and she won the apprenticeship, which she began in September 2009 after being released on license. It changed Faaduma's prospects and on her release she studied for four days a week at Lewisham College and worked two days a week at the restaurant.
