Boy Dies In North Yorkshire Swimming Pool

An eight-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulties at a North Yorkshire swimming pool.

The tragic incident happened at Hambleton Leisure Centre in Northallerton shortly before 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The boy, who was understood to live locally, was taken to the Friarage Hospital, but was pronounced dead later.

Staff at the centre were interviewed on Wednesday evening. It is understood that lifeguards were employed at the centre.

Councillor Peter Wilkinson, Cabinet Member for Health, said: "This is tragic accident and we send out condolences to the family of this young boy. As a mark of respect, the leisure centre will be closed until further notice."

Baby Dies After Being Bitten By Family Pet
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby bitten by dog in Sunderland. The three-week-old baby boy died in hospital following an incident at his home in Falkland Road. Police were called to the address at 04:15 on Saturday, 20 June. It is understood that the baby had been bitten by the families pet dog.

Boy Dies After Falling Into River In Argyll
A 10-year-old boy has died after falling into a river in Argyll while on holiday with his family. Emergency services were called to the incident at 13:45 on Tuesday. The boy was rescued by a passer-by after getting into difficulties. He was airlifted to Glasgow for treatment, however he later died at Yorkhill Hospital.

The mother of a five-year-old boy who died after being shot with an air rifle while playing in a garden has paid tribute to her late son. Emma Cooke, 43, from Ealing in London, described her son as "a bundle of joy".

Toddler In Pond Tragedy
An investigation has been launched after a three-year-old boy died when he fell into a garden pond. Ethan Read, from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, died in spite of his mother's attempts to revive him before the ambulance arrived. The incident happened at an address in Coney Weston. The death is being treated as unexplained.

Toddler dies in 'tragic accident' at canal
A toddler has died after he fell into a canal while trying to retrieve a football, it has been reported today. Emergency crews were called to the Stoneyholme area of Burnley at around 7pm last night after a passer-by managed to pull the four-year-old boy from the Leeds-Liverpool canal.
