No Blame On Freezing Couple

No agency was culpable over the couple found dead in a house with no heating in Northampton. A review looked into the deaths of Jean and Derrick Randall after their bodies were found at their home in Kingsthorpe on 7 January amid freezing conditions. Mr Randall, 76, died from pneumonia and lung cancer, while Mrs Randall, 79, died from a heart attack. The couple were found in their home in Birch Barn Way by police after a nurse who came to give Mrs Randall an injection failed to get an answer. She alerted the authorities and the bodies were found after police went into the house. Her Majesty's Coroners Office said in a statement: "No inquest will take place, the deaths are of a result of natural causes and there are no other suspicious circumstances present."

Police Appeal

The police are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary on an old lady in London's E7. It happened at 4am on Friday 20 August, at Sprowston Road, where officers found an 85-year old woman suffering from facial, shoulder and rib injuries. She was taken to an east London hospital where she remains in a stable condition. Officers believe that a male suspect gained entry to the address whereby he assaulted the victim and tied her up before ransacking the property. The man is believed to have stolen a distinction set of silver spoons engraved with the initials AB. Detectives are eager to speak with anyone who may have been offered these spoons for sale. Detectives from Newham CID are investigating and would like to speak with anyone who has information regarding the robbery on 020 7275 5009, or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

BMA Welcomes Booze Price Move

The British Medical Association (BMA), Alcohol Focus Scotland and Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) have endorsed the updated findings of researchers at Sheffield University on the impact that a minimum price per unit of alcohol will have on Scotland's drinking culture. The three leading health organisations supported the study in a submission to the Scottish Parliament's Health Committee which is currently considering legislation to introduce a minimum price per unit of alcohol. They said as the price of alcohol goes up, consumption of alcohol comes down and as consumption decreases, harm attributable to alcohol also decreases.
