Teenager Drowns At Blackpool Beach

A 14-year-old boy has drowned off Blackpool beach.

Liverpool Coastguard were called after two teenagers were spotted in trouble in the sea by Blackpool's Central Pier around 3:40pm yesterday.

The boys had been in the water with a large rubber ring - one of them managed to get to shore, but the other was last seen being covered by a wave and was then lost from sight.

A search, involving the Lytham St Annes Coastguard rescue team, all three Blackpool RNLI inshore lifeboats, a rescue helicopter and police units and helicopter, was launched.

The missing teenager was found in the water around 6:30pm yesterday evening.

The boy, believed to be from Northampton and on holiday with his family in Blackpool, was pronounced dead at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
