UK Marine Killed In Afghanistan

A Royal Marine from 40 Commando Royal Marines has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.

The marine was killed in an explosion while on a foot patrol in the Sangin district of Helmand province on Thursday (July 8).

Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "It is with great sadness I must inform you that a marine from 40 Commando Royal Marines was killed by an explosion in Sangin yesterday evening.

"He was part of a joint foot patrol, along with his fellow Marines and Afghan National Army partners, when he was struck by an explosion.

"He died a marine, in the course of his duty, and whilst improving the lives of local nationals in Sangin. His bravery and sacrifice will not be forgotten. We will remember him."

MoD names Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan
The Ministry of Defence has named the Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday as 23-year-old Richard Watson. Marine Watson, of 42 Commando Royal Marines, was part of a patrol in the north of Now Zad in the north of the Helmand province that came under attack from Taliban forces.

Two Killed In Afghan Blast
Two British soldiers have been killed in a blast in Afghanistan's Helmand province, the Ministry of Defence confirmed this morning. They were from The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (1 SCOTS), part of the 3 RIFLES Battle Group. The explosion happened near Sangin yesterday evening.

Two UK Troops Killed In Afghanistan
Two British servicemen have been killed by an explosion in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed. The pair - one from 29 Command Regiment Royal Artillery and a marine from 45 Commando Royal Marines - were killed by an explosion in Helmand Province.

Royal Marine Killed In Helmand
A 25-year-old Royal Marine has been killed while on routine patrol in a southern district of Afghanistan. Alex Lucas, from Peebles, in Scotland, died from his injuries following an explosion close to the treacherous Helmand province yesterday. The father of the former Peebles Rovers footballer said the news was 'heartbreaking'.
