Prince Charles Makes Sad Cumbria Trip
The Prince of Wales will meet members of the emergency services who tended to the victims of Derrick Bird's gun rampage in West Cumbria today.
Less than 24-hours after the first funeral of a victim of the Cumbria shooting massacre was held on Thursday, the Prince will visit West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven to speak to the hospital staff who responded in the aftermath of the shootings last week.
The trip comes just after Gary Purdham, 31, a father of two and former rugby player, who was shot dead by Derrick Bird while he was trimming hedges at his father's farm was buried.
Charles will today also go on to St Nicholas's Church, where he will meet the Rector of Whitehaven.
He will then speak to faith, community and civic leaders from West Cumbria before signing the book of condolence.
Taxi driver Derrick Bird left a dozen people dead after a crazed killing spree in which he killed his twin brother, a fellow cabbie and passers-by.
He killed himself after a police chase through country lanes in the county.
