YouTube Lorry Driver Keeps Licence
A lorry driver who was recorded driving along a motorway with a car trapped on the front of his cab is to retain his licence.
The footage, which was shown on YouTube, showed the lorry pushing a Renault Clio along at high-speed on the A1 motorway, near Wetherby, Yorkshire, in January.
The lorry driver, John Tomlinson from Lancashire, appeared before North West Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell.
Ms Bell told him he could keep his LGV driving licence because he could not see, hear or smell the car.
The mobile phone video of the incident was captured by a passenger in a passing car and has attracted more than half a million views since it was uploaded to YouTube last February.
The incident was investigated by West Yorkshire Police, who decided to take no further action against Mr Tomlinson following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Both drivers emerged unscathed after the vehicles eventually came to a stop.
