Latest UK Military Fatalities Named
The two UK soldiers killed in separate incidents in southern Afghanistan on Monday, have been named.
Sapper Daryn Roy, 28, of 21 Engineer Regiment, died from injuries caused when the vehicle he was travelling in was hit by a roadside bomb in Helmand.
L/Cpl Barry Buxton, 27, from the same regiment, died after his vehicle rolled into a canal, also in Helmand province.
Daryn Roy was part of a team conducting reconnaissance to replace a bridge in the Nad-e Ali District.
It said the soldiers' family have been informed.
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lt Col James Carr-Smith, said of the Daryn Roy who was killed in the blast: "He was travelling to meet up with local Afghan contractors prior to continuing with reconstruction programmes when he was killed in an explosion."
Lt Col Carr-Smith said the other casualty had been "part of a team conducting a reconnaissance to replace a bridge over a canal in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand, in order that local Afghans could travel more freely, when he was killed in a traffic accident."
Lt Col Carr-Smith also said both soldiers died in the course of their duty, and would be remembered.
The latest two deaths on Monday morning mean 284 UK military personnel have been killed in Afghanistan since operations began in 2001.
Britain has about 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, most based in Helmand, a centre of the Taliban insurgency.
