Teens Sentenced For Robbery
Two teenagers who held up a betting shop in Stockport have been sentenced.
The pair, both aged 15 and who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted robbery at an earlier hearing.
On Thursday 8 April they were each sentenced to three years in a young offenders' institute at Minshull Street Crown Court.
Shortly after 8.30pm on Monday 28 December 2009, the robbers, who were armed with hammers, entered the William Hill on Exeter Road.
A woman who was working in the shop was pushed to the ground by one of the boys, who demanded cash.
The pair emptied the tills and even ran off with one of the cash trays.
As part of the investigation police reviewed CCTV, which showed the boys, who had their faces covered, running off.
Officers decided to review CCTV covering a nearby tower block. Footage taken from Romney Towers showed the teenagers returning to the building shortly after the robbery.
They were arrested and subsequently charged.
Detective Constable Rob O'Brien, of Stockport CID, said: "These boys are young criminals who didn't think twice about robbing a betting shop.
"They thought they could cover their faces and get away with it but have been brought to task thanks to some good police work.
"I hope today's sentence acts as a wakeup call to them both otherwise they face a very bleak future."
