Electioneering Goes Nationwide
Great Britain's three main political parties today stepped up their national election campaigns on the second day of official canvassing.
Gordon Brown held his final Prime Minister's Questions in the Commons, before the House dissolves next week.
He clashed with Tory leader David Cameron on the Conservatives' National Insurance pledges, which is set to become a political 'hot potato' over the next three weeks.
Mr Brown earlier said business leaders had been "deceived" by the Conservatives' promises on cut the employers' tax levy.
He claimed Labour's plans to increase the charge would help fund front line services.
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg reiterated his call for change at the heart of Government, telling the Prime Minister it was "time to go".
Labour has said Tory plans to reduce public spend poses the threat of a double dip recession, however Opposition politicians have argued that without a cut in NI contributions the business community will suffer worse.
"This prime minister would wreck the recovery by putting a tax on every job, on everyone earning over £20,000, a tax on aspiration, a tax on every business in the country," said Mr Cameron.
Mr Brown later drew further election lines, proposing a referendum on how polling works in the UK and plans to elect the House of Lords.
Tories says they would back changes in rules which would allow constituents to "recall" a rogue MP. Lib Dems would also support this move.
The General Election will be held on 6 May.
