Solider Killed In Afghan Bomb

A young UK rifleman killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan at the weekend has been named by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Daniel Holkham, from 3rd Battalion The Rifles, serving with 3 RIFLES Battle Group, died in an explosion on Saturday, which was detonated by an insurgent near to the Sangin Bazaar.

Rifleman Holkham, 19, joined 3 RIFLES in Edinburgh in 2008 and was posted to 4 Platoon, B Company.

He took part in the Battalion exercise in Kenya later that year and then the pre-deployment build up training for operations in Afghanistan throughout 2009.

Rifleman Holkham deployed to Afghanistan in September 2009 and was working with his Platoon from a patrol base in central Sangin to provide security and development to the local people.

Rifleman Holkham leaves behind his parents Rodney and Tracy, his girlfriend Nikki, and his two brothers Andrew and Matthew who are both serving with 3 RIFLES.

A statement issued by the MoD, Rifleman Holkham's family said: "The loss of our son Danny has left a huge hole in our lives and that of his brothers and friends that can never again be filled. He served his country faithfully and with great pride."

24-Year-Old British Soldier Dies In Afghanistan
The Ministry of Defence has announced the death of a solider from 1st Battalion The Rifles. Lieutenant Daniel John Clack, 24, from north London, was killed on August 12 by an improvised explosive device while on a patrol in the Shaparak area of the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

Afghanistan Casualty Buried
The funeral of Captain Mark Hale, who was killed in Afghanistan, has taken place in Co Down. He died while trying to help an injured colleague when he was caught in an explosion. Today, his wife said words could not describe the desolation and loneliness she felt at losing "her soulmate".

MoD names British soldier killed in Iraq
The Ministry of Defence have named the soldier killed during an ambush in Basra on Tuesday as Rifleman Daniel Lee Coffey, from 10 Platoon, C Company, Second Battalion The Rifles. Rifleman Coffey, 21, died as a result of injuries sustained during patrol in north Basra.

British soldier dies in southern Iraq road accident
A British soldier has been killed in a road accident in southern Iraq, it has been announced today. Rifleman Vincent Windsor, a member of 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets, was killed in an accident on January 21 in Al Amarah. He was the 57th British soldier to die since the beginning of hostilies on March 19 last year.

Met Report 'One Of The Biggest Gun Hauls Ever'
A haul of 30 firearms have been recovered by the Metropolitan Police in what has been described as "one of the biggest gun hauls ever". Assault rifles, sawn-off shotguns and a Thompson machine gun are among the weapons seized from an address in Leyton, police have said.
