Tragic Child At Rest

The funeral of an eight-year-old girl found hanged in her Nottinghamshire bedroom is taking place today. Little Charlotte Avenall's body was found in the room, which was described as "foul and disgusting", at the house in Moor Street, Mansfield, on 12 September. Her mother Susan Moody, 24, and step-father Simon Moody, 32, pleaded guilty to child neglect and are due to be sentenced next month.

Wales Road Victims Named

Inquests into two road crash victms will be opened shortly after the men who were killed in a major road crash on Monday were named by West Mercia Police. They were Hefin Jones, 43, from Cardigan, Ceredigion, and Stuart Davies, 45, of Mold, Flintshire, collided on a viaduct on the A5 at Chirk, near Wrexham. Mr Jones was driving a cattle truck, while Mr Davies was in a Mercedes E200 estate car. The crash also involved a tanker lorry.

London Papers Sold

The Independent and Independent on Sunday newspapers have been sold to Russian billionaire Alexander Lebedev. The oligarch, who is the owner of the London Evening Standard, bought the loss-making paper from Irish company Independent News & Media (INM) for £1, the cost of one daily edition of the newspaper. As part of the deal, INM agreed to pay Mr Lebedev's Independent Print Limited (IPL) £9.25m over the next 10 months.

Mobile devices such as the iPhone can provide valuable assistance to insurance holders in a claims situation, comparison site Constructaquote.com has said. The statement follows recent research from AXA which highlighted that only 34% of British motorists are familiar with the correct claims procedures following a crash. Lyndon Wood of Constructaquote.com, commented: "While millions of consumers enjoy products like the iPhone for leisure, many do not realise that new technology can also play a serious role for a range of more serious matters such as insurance claims. If an individual suffers a motor accident, having an on-screen prompt could bring clarity to what is usually a very distressing situation.
