French Accord
The French President Nicolas Sarkozy is in London today for separate meetings with Gordon Brown and his Conservative rival David Cameron. Mr Brown said they had discussed a range of issues including the economy, nuclear power and the Middle East. Mr Sarkozy - who has not met Mr Cameron since 2008 - is likely to discuss his position on European defence issues when he meets the Conservative leader after he has left talks with Mr Brown.
Casino Scan Exposed
Two IT specialists have received a 12 month prison sentence suspended for two years at Croydon Crown Court today for theft from a nationwide casino chain by abusing their insider knowledge of their employer's IT systems. Andrew Owen Ashley, 30, of Laleham Road, London SE6, employed as a problem analyst at the time of the offences, pleaded guilty to one count of theft contrary to the Theft Act 1968 committed between 1 July 2007 and 12 September 2007. Nimesh Bhagat, 31, of Laitwood Road, London SW12, employed as a Problem Analyst at the time of the offences, pleaded guilty to one count of theft contrary to the Theft Act 1968 committed between 1 July 2007 and 12 September 2007. The two men were also handed 200 hours of community service and will now have to pay back over £16,000 each.
Wales Road Blocked
A 30-tonne lorry has toppled over on the A4160 Windsor Road in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan. The road is shut in both directions while the recovery work continues between Plassey Street and Bridge Street. Police directing traffic but advise the operation is likely to continue until the early afternoon.
Police Fund Raise
Trainee police officers from Hendon in London have raised £25,100 for various charities over the past 12 months. Each intake chooses a charity and organises fundraising events. Students from intake 09/10 course five have recently raised £6,500 for 'Help for Heroes'. The 187 students organised a number of sponsored activities. This included a cycle ride with a difference - cycling from London to Kabul in Croydon. The event organised by PC Philip Dyal from Croydon took place in a gym where a group of students cycled the equivalent of 3,500 miles.

Three Teens Arrested Over GTAV Robbery
Police in north London have arrested three teenagers in connection with the violent robbery of a 23-year-old man, suspected to have been targeted for his copy of the video game, Grand Theft Auto V. The victim is understood to have been making his way home at around 1.30am on Tuesday when he was attacked.

Met Cops 'Get On Their Bikes'
A new, 30-strong Police Cycle Task Force hit the streets of London today, as the police force, the Mayor and Transport for London (TfL) published a draft plan for tackling cycle theft and vandalism in the capital. The Task Force forms part of the Metropolitan Police Service's Safer Transport Command team and is funded by TfL.

Amendment Banning Smoking In Cars With Children Before Lords
The House of Lords is to vote later today on an amendment to the Children and Families Bill, seeking a ban on smoking in cars carrying children. The amendment has been put forward by Labour, who have said that if it is not passed by the Lords today, they will include it in its next election manifesto.

West Bromwich Albion striker Roman Bednar has been suspended by the club, following allegations he bought illegal drugs. The 26-year-old Czech international was suspended after the News of the World published a report and five photos of Bednart allegedly handing over cash for drugs.

John Darwin, the 'back-from-the-dead' canoeist and his wife have both lost their appeals against jail sentences for their £250,000 fraud scam. Former teacher John Darwin, 57, has challenged the term of six years and three months which a judge at the Teeside Crown Court handed down last July.
