Man Arrested Over 2006 Murder

Merseyside Police have arrested a 31-year-old man from Bootle in connection with the murder of father-of-one Stephen Lloyd in 2006.

Mr Lloyd, 25, was shot as he sat in his car outside MWM Skip Hire in Redfern Street shortly after 5pm on Thursday 13 July 2006.

"The arrested man has been taken to a police station on Merseyside where he will be questioned by detectives," a police spokesman confirmed last night.

Mr Lloyd had finished work and made his way to his small van parked immediately outside the premises, with the intention of going home.

As he sat in his vehicle, a larger white transit van, registered number M184 RKJ drove into the cul-de-sac end of Redfern Street where he was parked.

At least one occupant got out of the van and shot Mr Lloyd dead.

The offender then got back into the van, which was driven by a second person and it drove away at speed towards Bedford Road.

The van was abandoned a short distance away, under the railway bridge in Bedford Road and was set on fire.

Men were seen running from the vehicle in the direction of a white Volvo.

A short time later a white Volvo, registered number R771 NNL with blacked out windows was seen driving away from the scene. This vehicle has never been traced.
