Wimbledon Residents Make Drugs Find

Police have launched an investigation after residents in Wimbledon for several bin liners fulls of cannabis plant remains.

The discovery was made last week when locals became suspicious of black bags left on the street, giving off a smell.

Police attended and found that the half dozen bags contained cannabis stalks - suggesting they may have been harvested from a cannabis factory.

Inquiries led police to a nearby address in Haydons Road SW19 - a maisonette flat.

A search warrant was sought from Wimbledon magistrates and police entered the address on 13 January.

They found approximately 400 cannabis plants at the address, although no-one was inside at the time.

No arrests have been made and inquires are continuing.

Sergeant Emma Gardiner, of Abbey Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "This is a good example of the community being alert to suspicious activity and contacting the police immediately.

"It led directly to the discovery of a cannabis factory, and we encourage any other members of the public with similar suspicions about individuals or addresses to come forward."
