Woman Dies After Car Theft

A woman has been knocked down and killed after attempting to tackle a man who stole her car in Greater Manchester.

According to police, the victim was thrown onto the bonnet of the MG sports car after spotting a thief sitting inside her parked vehicle on Prestt Grove, Worsley Mesnes.

The reportedly 42-year-old fatality sustained serious head injuries in the incident and later died.

Detective Chief Inspector Robert Tonge described the events as "shocking" and appealed for information.

Officers have called for anyone who has seen the yellow MG, registration AK53 WNW, to contact police.

Prestt Grove and Cornwallis Road were closed while officers dealt with the incident.

DCI Tonge said: "This is a shocking incident in which a car thief has deliberately driven at a woman.

"She went on to the car bonnet and suffered a serious head injury. Whoever did this is clearly reckless and potentially dangerous so we need the public's help to catch him.

"It's quite a distinctive vehicle so we really need to hear from anyone who knows of this car's whereabouts."
