Brown Gears Up Team For Election
Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to sound a battle cry to Labour MPs telling them the General Election is winnable.
Senior Cabinet figures have stressed broad unity following a failed leadership coup last week.
It has been confirmed Mr Brown's election strategists will be led by Business Secretary Lord Mandelson and Deputy Labour Leader Harriet Harman.
The Prime Minister said the election will be fought on "big ideas".
Chancellor Alistair Darling's revelation that spending cuts would effect policy over the next two decades, was today played down by Schools Secretary Ed Balls.
He conceded the "incredible contrasts" of opinion on financial strategy did exist within the party, but denied any conflict within the Cabinet.
Mr Brown's pre-election rally call demonstrated a clear attempt to boost morale within Labour.
"We can beat them. We must beat them. And we will beat them," he said of the Conservatives.
Douglas Alexander will act as Labour's election coordinator, supported by chair of election strategy, and 'New Labour' architect, Lord Mandelson, while Ms Harman will oversee day-to-day electioneering.
"We cannot and will not fight the election on small ideas but on big ideas. And so we will contrast Labour, the party of aspiration, with the Tories, the party whose only pledge to the mainstream majority is one of austerity," said Mr Brown today.
