Nasim Jamil, who worked for Asian radio station Awaz FM, was found by family in her Byres Road flat on Wednesday.

Strathclyde Police said she had last been seen earlier in the day.

A postmortem examination is currently underway on Ms Jamil's remains.

Officers are continuing to conduct door-to-door inquires, with CCTV from the area being studied.

The widowed 54-year-old lived with her daughter and was said to be a popular member of the community.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Raphael said: "This was a particularly brutal murder and the person or persons responsible must be caught.

"We will also be studying CCTV in the Byres Road area to identify pedestrians and motorists who were in the area on Wednesday."

Ms Jamil had worked at the radio station for five years presenting a food show.

Charanjit Sangha described his colleague as "an amazing person".

"She was a really hard worker and it is such a loss.

"She was so close to everyone and a loving person."
