Two Die In Birmingham Blaze

A couple in their 60s have been killed in a house fire in Birmingham.

Police and fire crews remained at the scene on Wensleydale Road this afternoon.

Emergency services were initially called to the Perry Bar semi-detached house just after 4.30am this morning.

Two people, a man and a woman believed to be in their 60s, were confirmed dead at the scene. The deceased have yet to be formally identified.

Post mortem examinations will take place in due course, West Midlands Police said.

The property was severely damaged and houses either side were evacuated while the Fire Service dealt with the blaze.

A specialist Fire Investigation Team are examining the scene this afternoon to search for evidence of what may have caused the fire.

Motorists are advised that Wensleydale Road will remain closed for some time today while the emergency services are at the scene.
